High-strength Steel

Tata Steel Strip Products IJmuiden offers a complete range of micro-alloyed and rephosphorised high-strength steels in cold-rolled uncoated condition for applications where thin gauges and high strengths are required. The range of high-strength steels is used by various carmakers and subcontractors for inner parts where they benefit from their dent-resistance, crash-resistance, formability and good weldability.

The micro-alloyed grades have high strength levels through precipitation and grain refinement hardening and therefore cold forming is limited. By using the right alloying elements, high mechanical resistance is reached while maintaining low levels of alloying elements and good weldability. The rephos grades present a high mechanical resistance and a good suitability for cold forming due to solid solution hardening by phosphorus. These grades are used in car body panels and structural components due to their good impact and fatigue resistance properties.

Tata Steel Strip Products IJmuiden supplies high-strength micro-alloyed (HSLA) steel which complies to European standard EN 10268 (2006). As an alternative for conventional cold-rolled high-strength steels in heavier gauges (above 1.2 mm) we recommend our Ymagine products.

Applications

Cold-rolled high-strength grades are used for various applications including the following:

  • automotive parts
    chassis members
    seat parts
    reinforcements
  • construction parts
  • precision tubes
  • furniture

1) If the yield strength is pronounced (yield flag), the values apply to the lower yield point (ReL).

2) For products with thickness > 2 mm the minimum r90 is reduced by 0.2.

3) When thickness ≤ 0.7 mm, the minimum value for elongation is reduced by 2%.
