General information
Ymvit® Steel for Enamelling

Ymvit steel for enamelling is steel for cold forming with a special chemical composition and method of processing. Tata Steel Strip Products IJmuiden has the correct steel grade for direct and conventional enamelling and for one or two layered enamelling. Each coil is tested for susceptibility to fishscaling. If the steel is to be enamelled directly, then each coil is also tested for its pickling qualities.

The products in this section are marketed under the brandname Ymvit.

  • Ymvit Ultra 03/04 is the ultimate enamelling steel patented by Tata Steel. Decarburized in the steelplant, titanium free, cold-rolled and batch annealed, it has perfect adhesion of coating. Ymvit Ultra has improved resistance to carbon boiling and fish scaling.
  • Ymvit Extra 06 is a titanium stabilized enamelling steel fit for all purposes when suitable enamelling processes are used. It is especially suitable for applications where extra deep drawing is necessary.

Applications

Steel for enamelling is used for applications including the following:

  • bathtubs
  • washing machines
  • stoves and sinks
  • wall panels
  • heat-exchange panels (pore free)

1) The values of the yield strength are those of the 0.2% yield strength for products that do not present a definite

yield point, and the lower yield strength ReL for the other products.
2) For a thickness of 0.5 mm < t < 0.7 mm the maximum value of the yield strength is increased by 20 N/mm²

and the minimum elongation after fracture is decreased by 2%.
3) For a thickness of t ≤ 0.5 mm the maximum value of the yield strength is increased by 40 N/mm² and

the minimum elongation after fracture is decreased by 4%.
4) The r value applies to a thickness of t ≥ 0.5 mm. For a thickness of t > 2 mm, the r value is decreased by 0.2.
5) For a thickness of t ≥ 1.5 mm the maximum value of the yield strength is 225 N/mm².
6) For design purposes, a lower yield strength ReL of at least 120 N/mm² can be assumed.

1) Copper concentration is dependent on phosphorus concentration.

The elements P and Cu are kept within certain limits to ensure that the pickling qualities of the steel for enamelling are as constant as possible. Under normal conditions this leads to a reproducible enamelling result.

Surface Aspects

Steel for enamelling shall be supplied with normal finish (Ra between 0.6 µm and 1.9 µm).

Steel for direct enamelling; Ymvit Ultra 03 and Ymvit Ultra 04, normally have a rhombic pattern. Ymvit Extra 06 normally has a stripe pattern.

If a different roughness is ordered, a rhombic or stripe pattern is not possible.
